Weight range is the optimal and recommended for performing the required skills for this program.
The 420 is one of the most popular double handed dinghies for junior sailing. With one of the largest fleets on Lake Ontario, this boat provides a challenge to advanced sailors, yet is simple enough for beginners to learn the basics. The CANSail 1 program will introduce participants to the fundamental sailing and safety knowledge that is the foundation of the CANSail Learn to Sail framework.
This course is offered in four two-week sessions. Upon successful completion of the skills checklist, sailors will be awarded a certificate of achievement.
One week sessions are available upon request. Recommended minimum to attain CANSail certification is two weeks.
Wetfeet is recommended but not required

- Parts of a boat – rigging and de-rigging
- Overall safety – measures on water and pre sailing preparation
- Proper launching and docking procedure
- Introduction to tacking and gybing
