Program Description:
The C420 is one of the most popular double-handed dinghies for junior sailing. With one of the largest fleets on Lake Ontario, this boat provides a challenge to advanced sailors, yet is simple enough for beginners to learn the basics. The CANSail 1 program will introduce participants to the fundamental sailing and safety knowledge that is the foundation of the CANSail Learn to Sail framework.
This course is offered in four two-week sessions. Upon successful completion of the skills checklist, sailors will be awarded a certificate of achievement.
Optimal Sailor Weight Range:
40 – 73 kg (90 lbs – 160 lbs)
Weight range is the optimal and recommended for performing the required skills for this program.
Pre-requisites:
Wetfeet is recommended but not required
Learning Outcomes CANSail 1:
Sailors will learn:
- Parts of a boat – rigging and de-rigging
- Overall safety – measures on water and pre sailing preparation
- Proper launching and docking procedure
- Introduction to tacking and gybing
